Synthesis for Idle Speed Control of an Automotive Engine
نویسندگان
چکیده
The problem of maintaining the crankshaft speed of an automotive engine within a given set interval (idle speed control), is formalized as a constrained control problem using a hybrid model of the engine. The control problem is difficult because the system has delays and a large number of constraints. The approach for the synthesis of a controller for this system is based on the theory developed for affine systems on polytopes. A structured control synthesis procedure is applied in which constraints for state and input variables are backward propagated from the controlled output (the crankshaft speed) across successive subsystems.

Optimal Idle Speed Control of a Natural Aspirated Gasoline Engine Using Bio-inspired Meta- heuristic Algorithms
In order to lowering level of emissions of internal combustion engines (ICEs), they should be optimally controlled. However, ICEs operate under numerous operating conditions, which in turn makes it difficult to design controller for such nonlinear systems. In this article, a generalized unique controller for idle speed control under whole loading conditions is designed. In the current study, in...
متن کاملModeling the Effects of Combustion Variability for Application to Idle Speed Control in SI Engines
Combustion in the cylinder of a spark ignition engine, particularly under low load conditions, is subject to cycleby-cycle variations due to factors such as mixture quality and quantity and internal exhaust gas recirculation. The major result of this phenomenon is an increase in the variability of indicated engine torque at a given engine operating point. Automotive control problems dealing wit...

Idle speed control of ultra-lean burn engines continues to be a major focus of automotive engineers owing to the benefits offered in terms of fuel economy and emissions reduction. This paper applies a recently proposed linear time varying model predictive approach for the idle speed control of ultra-lean burn internal combustion engines. Unlike conventional gasoline engines, the approach uses f...
متن کاملIdle Speed Control Design and Verification for an Automotive Engine
The goal of an idle control for automotive engines is to maintain the engine speed within a given range, robustly with respect to load torque disturbances acting on the crankshaft. Mean value models have been used in the past to design idle control algorithms. However, the behavior of the torque generation process and the dynamics of the power{train are not captured with enough accuracy to guar...
متن کاملA novel approach to disturbance rejection in idle speed control towards reduced idle fuel consumption
Idle speed control remains one of the most challenging problems in the automotive control eld owing to its multiple-input, multiple-output structure and the step nature of the disturbances applied. In this paper a simulation model is described for a 4.0 l production engine at idle which includes the standard bypass air valve and spark advance dynamics, as well as the e ects of operating point o...
